I was born in upstate New York but was moved to the southern states as a child. I moved to Virginia, then Kentucky, back to Virginia and then Tennessee where my family put down roots.
My first trip to the ocean as an adult was simply love for me. My sister and I went to Daytona Beach by bus. We took a taxi to the hotel where I caught sporadic glimpses of sand and surf between the buildings. My heart was racing and immediately after checking in, I ran straight to the water's edge vowing to live closer to it one day.
I met my husband and learned he was a beach lover too and all of our vacations have been to coastal destinations. I photographed whatever I could on our trips and began painting from my photos upon my return. My house reflected my love for the ocean with my paintings of palms, sea birds and the beach.
My husband was offered a position n Tampa, Florida in 2007 and our family resides in Wesley Chapel outside of Tampa. We LOVE living here!
My interest in art has always been with me. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with an emphasis in graphic design in 1987. I took continuing education classes in fine art at Watkin's Fine Art Institute in Nashville, TN.
I began painting in oil but found the fumes and drying time to be a huge annoyance. I switched to acrylic but like many acrylic painters who began with oil, my art takes on an oil look and feel. I also enjoy photographing my gorgeous surroundings and many available to be uploaded soon. My favorite subject matter has always been coastal themes including palm trees, children at play in the surf, local wildlife and flowers. I also love studying and painting animals.
I am a board member of the North Tampa Arts League in New Tampa, Florida.
Thanks for stopping by! I've just opened my site so please check back..more to come!
